Description
Very rare vintage teacup and saucer made by Aynsley, England with the  full figural butterfly handle
Floral  pattern of blue cornflowers with butter yellow handpainted cup base and yellow stripe details
The cup shape is reminiscent of the Shelley Oleander with embossed petal details
Hand painted butterfly (incredibly detailed)
Likely dates from the 1930s
Saucer is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, other damage or restoration and  passes the "ping" test
Cup sadly has a nearly invisible hairline crack on the side and a pin prick size nick to the rim; the butterfly also a pin prick sized flake on the inner top left of the wing
No wear to the floral pattern and none to gold
A few pin prick bits of darkened kiln debris underglaze and blobs of the yellow paint from factory production - only fair to mention for complete accuracy
Cup measures 2 1/4" tall and 4" across including handle; saucer is 5 1/4" across
Marked with older  Aynsley crown shield mark in dark green with ENGLAND (note no MADE IN) and pattern number B 1334 in hand painted burned orange all as shown in photo
Please ignore all white spots on photos caused by camera flash
This rare set would make a wonderful addition to your collection even as a shelf piece
